From Ohind, Alexander proceeded towards Taxila. While crossing the Indus river he constructed a bridge at Ohind (present day Khyber Pakhtunwa). Gandhara kingdom was defeated within one week and 100,000 infantry and cavalry were taken into captive in the fort of Massaga in Kandahar. The first major dissenter was Asvayanas (Gandhara kingdom) with their capital at Puskalavati. While on his away to the unexplored Eastern World, they faced many fierce tribal communities. Hephaestion had a great success against the Gedrosians in present day Eastern Iran.
While on his way to the epic invasion, Alexander divided his army into two parts – one was under his command and another was under his two trusted generals, Hephaestion & Perdikkas towards India. The decisive battle was fought at the city of Arbela in which Greeks vanquished the western Persian empire.Īlexander was not satisfied with his conquest of Middle & Central Asia as he has determined to be the master of the land of milk and honey (India).
